Patch Wilton, CT --Wilton Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gary Richards announced Thursday night that the board ratified the appointment of Wilton High School associate principal Maria Coleman as the new principal of Middlebrook School.
"Ms. Coleman is a strong instructional leader who has a wonderful perspective of the middle school learner," he wrote in a letter to Middlebrook School parents. "Having taught at the elementary level, she is aware of the skill sets students need to enter middle school, and as a high school administrator, she knows what students need to know and be able to do as they transition to the high school."
Coleman graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1999, she assumed a position as a second grade classroom teacher at Driscoll School. From 2002 to 2008, she took on the additional responsibilities as Mathematics Instructional Leader. During that time, Coleman also earned an MA in Educational Technology from Fairfield University and her administrative certificate at the University of Bridgeport.
In 2008, Coleman made the move to administration as an assistant principal at Wilton High school and then was appointed associate principal in 2011.
Coleman is replacing Middlebrook's current principal Julia Harris, who recently announced her retirement after serving Wilton Public Schools for 28 years.
Dr. Richards' announcement was met with applause Thursday night and members of Wilton Public Schools greeted her with handshakes and hugs. Reported by Patch 9 hours ago.
