ELLINWOOD, Kansas -- After being devastated by Hurricane Isaac a few months ago, Haiti was hit again. Hurricane Sandy has left a path of destruction in Haiti and non-profit organization, Star of Hope looking for relief.
Star of Hope has been sending volunteers to Haiti for the last 30 years. They help build schools, churches and perform many other community projects.
Now, nine Star of Hope communities have been severely damaged by Sandy's flash flooding and landslides. Four school buildings were left with roof damage and water inside.
The organization anticipates close to $12,000 worth of damage to their projects.
With Hurricane Isaac and Sandy, Star of Hope is concerned for the farmers and their lost crop.
Star of Hope President and CEO, Barry Borror said, "Buying seed is difficult for them, and if they've lost tools and animals that's a devastating to them. The total estimate that Tony has right now is from a Star of Hope perspective $511,000."
"Hurricane Sandy was a lot worse than Hurricane Isaac. First of all, it's the second one in just two months, so things that they have planted is lost. They cant go to the bank, they don't have any money, " added Maria Presson of Star of Hope Donor Services.
The organization hopes to raise enough funds to help area farmers get supplies and replant their crops.
