Sen. Maria Cantwell has found a surefire way to work off the frustrations of Washington, D.C., gridlock and the grind of political fund-raising. She climbs mountains. The “Gentle lady from Washington” reached the 19,341-foot-high summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, on July 6 just as President Obama was visiting the coastal Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam. Cantwell had previously summited 14,410-foot Mount Rainier, the highest peak in the Cascades, and took time off from a fund-raising trip for her 2012 reelection to climb the 13,776-foot Grand Teton in Wyoming.
