Sean Turner's parent arrange a meeting with Sir Bruce Keogh This is Bristol -- SEAN Turner's parents are determined to do all they can to ensure lessons will be learnt from the death of their son and have managed to get the NHS medical director Sir Bruce Keogh to agree to a meeting with them by urging him on Twitter. The four-year-old died during the aftercare at Bristol Children's Hospital following corrective heart surgery in March 2012. Sean's father Steve Turner took to Twitter calling for someone to take over the reins to 'stand to post and sort this out'. Within hours NHS England's director Mr Keogh responded that he would be happy to meet with 'all concerned parents'. At Sean's inquest two-weeks-ago a narrative verdict was recorded whereby the Avon coroner Maria Voisin said there was no evidence of any "gross failures to provide basic care" but 'there were lost opportunities to render medical care or treatment to Sean in this post-operative period.' His parents feel Sean was moved out of intensive care too early and staff on Ward 32 missed important warning signs of his worsening condition. In the coming weeks it is hoped by the Turners that the parents of other children who died at the hospital including that of Luke Jenkins, who died just days after he underwent heart surgery at BCH, will be able to meet with Mr Keogh. Sean's mother Yolanda Turner, of Warminster, said she first asked for a meeting with Mr Keogh in 2012 and feels important time is being lost. She said:"We were told that the parliamentary ombudsman could be investigating but all this is taking too long while children are still going there. "We will be asking him what's been going wrong and what can be done to stop it." Mr Keogh's office called the family this week to arrange the meeting but they are still waiting for a definite date to be confirmed. Sean's hearing was the second of six inquests of children who died following care at the children's hospital. Mrs Turner added: "It's been hard to get the right people to come together. We have not been the only people trying, Luke's parents have also been trying so there are two families doing this." Reported by This is 9 hours ago.
