A TIRELESS fundraising group are rolling in dough after... rolling out dough.

Crawley Hospital's League Of Friends got elbow deep in cake mixture to raise an incredible £3,458 with their latest cake sale and raffle.

The group, which includes Maria Hains, Lesley Marginson and Sue Ivine, baked more than 200 scones, dozens of Christmas cakes, giant mince pies and even some more obscure items like courgette loaves.

The sale was held in the entrance hall to Crawley Hospital last Thursday and peckish hospital staff, visitors and patients tucked in and made a donation.

A raffle and tombola also helped boost the coffers.

Maria, 69, from Three Bridges, said: "I had two big ovens going with four trays in at a time. I have a huge mixing bowl but my husband has to help me stir the mixture because I can't always do it. I was covered from head to toe in flour but it was worth it.

"It is amazing. I really can't believe how busy we have been. We have done a lot of these events but every time I am amazed by how generous people are.

"We baked 200 scones and lots of Christmas cakes and we had only a tiny amount left."

Half of the money raised will go towards the hospital's cancer services and the other half will go into the hospital's general fund. It will all help pay for new equipment. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
